CONNECTING INDIAN STUDENTS TO AMERICAN
LIBERAL ARTS EDUCATION

  • SKC India Office
  • SKC New York City Office

SKC Educational Consulting connects high performing secondary school age and undergraduate Indian students to US liberal arts colleges and universities that focus on educating a person to engage in the life of the mind as a route to a substantive career in industry, the arts, and government.

We are uniquely situated in India and the US. Our Indian operations are based in Dehra Dun, the capital of the state of Uttarakhand located in north India. Known as a great educational hub, Dehra Dun is home to excellent residential schools, good local high schools, and both private and public universities with established national reputations. The population of the city is relatively affluent and eager to utilize its affluence to extend the advantages of American education to its children. The city attracts students from across the country, and this broadens our ability to recruit.

We have discovered that ambitious, intelligent Indian students have limited opportunities in India to obtain the kind of quality liberal arts higher education to which their American contemporaries have access. This fact has been widely documented in the New York Times and the Chronicle of Higher Education in recent years; opportunities for quality higher education in India are few and far between.

In India, we are frequently asked by students and parents how to gain access to liberal arts colleges in the US. While a certain sector of the Indian student population is aware of and pursues access to elite, Ivy League US colleges and universities, we are interested in servicing students who have the ability, desire, and means to seek a well rounded education in a smaller, more student-focused setting that also will aid them in developing dynamic careers in the arts, government, and the corporate sector.

All students who seek our services are first evaluated using a personal essay written in English to determine if they are committed to the broadly humanistic liberal arts education for which we are recruiting them in the US. These essays are then provided to our US higher education partners for use in admissions decisions.

In Dehra Dun, we will provide evaluation of students’ English language skills and their facility in beginning a program of study expected by US liberal arts colleges. We will also prepare them for the SAT, ACT, GRE and/or TOFEL examinations. Our students will be screened to insure their intellect and their ability to fund their studies in the US.

While our focus is currently on students in Dehra Dun and its surrounding area, including the capital city of New Delhi, we will soon expand the reach of our operations throughout India.
